Ian Donovan
Associate
Ian is a litigator with a focus on commercial matters. He brings a pragmatic approach to dispute resolution to help his clients reach success with a mind towards their continued business operations.
Since being called to the bar in Massachusetts in 2018, Ian has advised entities in all areas of operation, including financial institutions; insurance companies; large and small businesses; and high net worth individuals. Issues dealt with range from collecting overdue bills and contract disputes to multi-million dollar real estate and construction matters. Ian understands that clients need real solutions at every step of the litigation process; he focuses on providing meaningful and timely progress towards the resolution of a dispute, driving each of his cases instead of letting it languish. Ian has appeared at the district, superior and appellate levels of Massachusetts courts and the district level of the Federal District of Massachusetts courts.
Since moving to Ontario to be with his spouse and step-daughter, Ian has continued to advocate for his clients at multiple court levels and tribunals, declaring that the only major change in his litigation practice is that his robes prevent him from wearing his favourite tie in court. Ian has focused his practice in Ontario on commercial litigation, construction litigation, and debt collection litigation.
Ian believes that each case turns not just on the applicable law, but the unique facts that make each case a dispute worth fighting. Much like the novels and books he spends his weekends reading (when not drafting legal documents), he knows that every matter deserves special attention and should be approached as new and novel.
